Building Change

The Raleigh Expedition in Costa Rica, led by Raleigh International Inc., is a 10-week program that combines community action, environmental projects, and adventure in rural and natural areas of the country. Moreover, it offers participants the chance to develop skills, build friendships, and make a real impact.

As we look ahead to 2026, we are thrilled to announce that applications are now open:  the first expedition cycle of the year, taking place from February 10 to April 17, 2026.

During the Expedition, you’ll join a diverse team of young changemakers in three exciting phases:

  • Community projects: in rural and indigenous communities.

  • Environmental projects: in partnership with organizations and companies working on sustainable initiatives.

  • The adventure challenge : a trek of approximately 220 km through rainforest, mountains, and rural  areas.

Additionally, every day is an opportunity to grow, connect, and contribute to a more sustainable future. As a result, participants not only gain hands-on experience but also leave a lasting positive impact on the communities and ecosystems they work with.

Scholarships for Costa Rican participants

The expedition has a real cost of US$6,860. However, this scholarship covers accommodation, food, transportation, project materials, support, and full logistics during the expedition.

As Greentalist, an NGO registered in Costa Rica, we only request a symbolic donation of ₡80,000. In addition, we invite participants to carry out a fundraising campaign as part of their preparation. Furthermore, this helps participants engage with their communities and develop valuable skills before the expedition begins.
